The trial offer for Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass priced at £1/$1 has been discontinued in the days leading up to the big launch of Starfield, Microsoft's most awaited release of the year. The website now demands the payment of the full amount for the initial month.
Earlier, Microsoft had reduced the one-month trial at £1/$1 to just two weeks in August. Yet, the reason behind the change remains unknown as Microsoft did not respond to inquiries for comment.
This offer had been relaunched in July after being temporarily retracted in March, right before Redfall's release on PC and Xbox in May. The £1/$1 offer had always been a significant incentive for users to subscribe to Microsoft's monthly service.
The Xbox Game Pass lets subscribers play new Microsoft games on their release without fully purchasing them. But with the upcoming release of Starfield, and without any chance for a public hands-on, the offer is no longer available.
For those who are interested in Starfield, it will be necessary to pay for a full month of Game Pass on console (£9/month), PC (£8/month) or Ultimate (£13/month) to try the game. Alternately, it is priced at £70 on console.
