Gemini, a prominent app for mobile devices, is introducing innovative features to enhance user interaction. The Gemini app for both iOS and Android platforms will soon unveil AI agents known as Gems. Initially launched for the web version of Gemini in August, these personalized chatbots are now extending their functionality to mobile users, allowing them to develop chatbots tailored for distinct tasks. In conjunction with the introduction of Gems, Google is also overhauling the home page for both web and mobile applications.
A recent observation by the staff of Gadgets 360 confirmed that the Gemini app on Android now includes Gems. This enhancement appears to have slightly modified the app's overall appearance. The previous Recent section, which showcased prompt suggestions and recently employed prompts, has been transformed into a new area titled Chat & Gems.
Screenshots depicting this latest addition provide insights into its integration within the app. To access Gems, users will simply click on the profile icon positioned in the upper right area of the screen. Below the Extensions option, a new feature labeled Gem Manager can now be found. This option reveals three tabs — All, Your Gems, and By Google. The second tab displays the custom AI agents crafted by the user, while the third tab lists the default Gems developed by the tech company. These include roles such as Learning Facilitator, Idea Generator, Career Advisor, Content Reviewer, and Coding Partner.
Gems function as a specialized version of Gemini, equipped with a focused dataset pertinent to their designated uses. Once established, Gems can interpret prompts more swiftly and accurately than the standard chatbot. Importantly, access to Gems is restricted to subscribers of Gemini Advanced.
In addition to incorporating these AI agents into the mobile experience, Google is also embarking on a redesign of the home page on both the app and web platforms. Users of the current version are greeted with a prominent message asking, “How can I help you today?” followed by a series of prompt suggestions displayed in a carousel format. In contrast, the revamped home page will present a more streamlined interface, featuring only the phrase, “How can I help you?” in smaller text. This new layout emphasizes minimalism, preventing information overload for the user. Prompt suggestions and the option to initiate a new chat will be conveniently positioned within a chat icon located at the top-left corner.
